The Hollywood Reporter says that young British actress Michelle Ryan (images) has landed the title role on NBC’s drama pilot “The Bionic Woman.”

“Bionic Woman,” from NBC Universal TV, is described as a re-imagination of the 1970s series. Ryan will play a bright woman who is transformed into a technological wonder with $50 million worth of bionic components implanted in her body.

Ryan is best known for her five-year turn on the popular BBC soap “EastEnders.”

The Yoko Ono remix compilation Yes, I’m a Witch is one of 2007’s pleasant surprises, with strong contributions from Jason Pierce, Antony, Cat Power, and the Apples in Stereo. Just before album’s release we spoke to Yoko Ono about the project.

Pitchfork: So, I’ve spent quite a bit of time with Yes, I’m a Witch.

Yoko Ono: Oh good. I think it’s fantastic, because right now I’m into indie music. I think indie is going to bring back the spirit in music. There was a time when it was all about accommodating the music business, the music was getting tasteless, but now, the spirit is back. It’s a very difficult time with the social climate today, difficult and heavy, and so, you know, we’re thinking: OK, we need to bring back the spirit. It’s great.

Um homem entrou num centro comercial de Salt Lake City, no Estado de Utah, armado com uma escopeta, e matou ontem à noite pelo menos cinco pessoas até ser morto pela Polícia, quase ao mesmo tempo em que outro, na Filadélfia, matou pelo menos três pessoas antes de cometer suicídio. “Tivemos seis mortes e várias vítimas em hospitais, que encontramos em vários lugares do centro comercial” de Salt Lake City, declarou a detetive da Polícia Robin Snyder, citada pela emissora local KSL.

Uma noite antes de sua grande entrevista coletiva, Claudia Mitchell cortou um filé pela primeira vez desde que perdeu um braço em um acidente de motocicleta, dois anos atrás ¿ graças a seu novo braço “biônico”. Mitchell, 26 anos, é a primeira mulher a receber um braço experimental, que redireciona os nervos seccionados de forma a enviar sinais cerebrais aos motores eletrônicos da prótese.

Ela é um dos seis pacientes que estão testando o braço, em desenvolvimento pelo Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Com a prótese que usava anteriormente no braço, Mitchell só podia executar uma tarefa de cada vez - ou estender o cotovelo, ou abrir a mão. E ela precisava se concentrar em flexionar o músculo peitoral ou o trícepes para movimentar o braço.

“Era estranho”, lembra Mitchell na coletiva. “Eu tinha de pensar que minha mão estava lá, ótimo. Agora, que músculo devo acionar? Agora, basta pensar no movimento”.
